Year 2’s Boggit Shelters

21/05/2016 at 6:33 PM

On Monday, Year 2 had a DT extravaganza day making homes for our Boggits. The children investigated different types of tent structures then designed, planned, made and evaluated their own design.  The design criteria included making sure that the  shelter was large enough for the Boggits to fit in, making sure the Boggits could get in and out of the shelter and to make the shelter comfortable as well as aesthetically pleasing.  Before making their own shelter, the children had a go at making different types of structures. We were very impressed at the children’s designs and creativity as well as their ability to adapt and inprove their structures. Here are just some photos of the day:

Wow! Such a fantastic day and how lucky was I (Miss Sedman) to spend it with my amazing old class.  The sun shone and so did the smiles. Everyone described the day as one of the best days ever! We investigated habitats and learnt about mini beasts. We learnt all about the different parts of a plant and a plant’s life cycle. We had a brilliant time pond dipping and saw lots of creatures such as newts and frogs. We also played lots of fun games to learn about larger animals and their habitats and how they use camouflage to protect themselves. A brilliant day full of learning and fun. We have had a fabulous day at Skelton Grange today where we learnt all about different plants, mini-beasts and their habitats. Highlights included pond dipping, mini beast hunting and searching for different parts of plants and sticking them onto ‘sticky boards’.  The children loved every minute of the trip.  Here are some of the things the children said about the trip:

“I loved everything!” Harry

“I liked the pond dipping.” Sophie

“I found a really good newt!” Owen

“I loved finding the newts!” Stevie

“I enjoyed the camouflage game.” Betsy

“I loved pond dipping” Lewis

“I loved mini beast hunting” Sam

2L’s Boggits!

10/05/2016 at 8:43 PM

We have had such fun this afternoon making our very own boggits! If you don’t know what a boggit is, well let me educate you:  a boggit is a little magical creature which is made of clay and natural materials. When you make your boggit, if you put lots of love, time and care into your creation then a little bit of magic is transferred from you into your boggit!  Next week in DT, we are going to start designing and building shelters for our little friends using natural materials we find outside.

Here are some of our creations:
