This week the children have been very creative, enjoying lots of art and design activities. They have designed and made their own bog babies in clay and decorated them with natural materials. We think you’ll agree that they are amazing!
In English lessons, we have been writing a non-chronological report about our own bog babies. The children have yet again wowed us with their imaginative ideas and their application of writing skills.
In maths, the children have started thinking about the measurement of mass. They have used balance scales to compare objects using the words heavier and lighter than. We will continue to learn about mass next week.
Next week we are hoping for better weather so we can get on with our geography topic which we have put on hold this week!

We have had a very busy start to the half term and are all excited about our new topic. We have made the most of the good weather and have been enjoying the outdoors and exploring our grounds.
Through the story Bog Baby by Jeanne Willis, we have introduced the idea of habitats. The story is about two children who find a magical creature in the woods and take it home as a pet. Even though they thought they were taking good care of him, he actually became very ill. When they finally returned him to his natural habitat, he was able to thrive.
We have written some lovely descriptions of the bog baby’s habitat and have written a letter to a professor, explaining how to look after a bog baby. This morning we went on a bog baby hunt in our own magical woods, the Conservation Area. We were extremely lucky to find some very strange creatures! We will continue to use this idea in our English work next week.
In our geography lessons we have been on a scavenger hunt and have started to look at maps. We used the compass directions to navigate around a set of cones.
In Maths this week, we have been using mathematical vocabulary for position and direction. We have learned how to direct an object on a grid using forwards, backwards, left and right and have introduced turns using clock wise and anti- clockwise.
