19/07/2019 at 12:52 PM

We had a fantastic time on Tuesday at Skelton Grange learning all about the different mini-beasts that live in different habitats. The children really impressed the staff at Skelton grange with their knowledge and enthusiasm. The children were an absolute pleasure and a credit to the school.

Busy Bees in Year 2!

12/07/2019 at 12:19 PM

We have had a very busy week in Year 2, taking part in Sports’ Day, a skip-a-thon and having a visit from our beekeepers.

On Wednesday the children had a fantastic time at Sports’ Day. They worked well as a team and enjoyed all the activities, cheering each other on and trying their best. Thank you for coming along to support them.

In the afternoon, we enjoyed some more informal activities, making up obstacle courses and playing with the different PE equipment. We had a well deserved rest and an ice pop!

On Thursday we had a visit from Mrs Gilhooley and Mrs Laurie, Farfield’s beekeepers. They were amazed by what the children already knew! The children listened well and asked and answered questions brilliantly. A massive thank you to them for coming in and speaking to the children; it was absolutely fascinating!

We have written a number of new chapters in our bee books this week including how bees make honey and a recount of the bee talk. We will be finishing these next week.

This morning the children got to show off their skipping skills in individual, pair and class skipping events. The children have progressed so much this year in skipping; some children weren’t able to skip at all at the start of the year and now everybody is able to do some skipping. We had a go at some new skips that even the teachers found tricky! Well done to everyone in Year 2! Please can you bring in any sponsor forms and money next week.

Year 2 Mosque Visit

11/07/2019 at 4:32 PM

Last week, Year 2 visited Leeds Grand Mosque as part of their Annual School Exhibition. The children took part in a number of workshops where they learned about the Mosque and what it is used for. They heard the call to prayer and saw a demonstration of how Muslims pray. The children learned about the Qu’ran. It was fascinating to learn that it is printed in lots of different languages and even in braille. They also found out about different traditional Islamic clothing.

The children were extremely respectful and listened very well to all the group leaders. They asked lots of thoughtful and interesting questions.

Getting Ready for Year 3!

05/07/2019 at 1:28 PM

This week we have been thinking about getting ready for Year 3.

The children had a lovely morning yesterday meeting their new teachers and did their very best to impress their new teachers. Miss Ellis and Miss Chambers are very lucky!

You will receive some more information about moving to year 3 before we break up for the summer, detailing the junior building routines.  The main things to be aware of are:

  • School starts at 8.45am in the juniors. Children will need to wait on the top of the playground. The teachers will come out to welcome the children and open the doors at 8.40am.
  • School finishes at 3.20. The children are collected from the playground.
  • The children will need indoor shoes to change into. Most children choose black pumps.
  • Children will be told which day they have PE in September. Children will need to come to school in their PE kit on that day. This includes a red school hoodie which can be purchased from the school uniform shop in Farsley.

We will be visiting the junior building again before the end of term and children will be working with a Year 3 buddy to find out more and ask any questions.

In assemblies and in class this week, we have been talking through feelings associated with change. The children have been very good at talking about their feelings and we have done our best to reassure them!

In maths this week, we have also been thinking about Year 3 by working really hard to learn times tables facts. Children have been using  number lines to solve both multiplication and division questions. Please keep practising counting in 2s, 3s, 5s and 10s and answering both multiplication and division questions for these times tables. Remember to use times tables rockstars!

This week in English, we have started to make our own non-fiction books about bees. The children have written an introduction and designed an eye catching front cover. They have written information about beehives and the life cycle of a bee. We will continue to work on these next week too!

Next week we are looking forward to Sports’ Day. You should have received a letter about this which tells you which team your child is in. Please see class teachers if you need further information.
