A fun first week back

Welcome back! We hope you had a lovely break.

This week we started our new topics. The children are really enjoying our class text for this half term, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. This will form the basis of our work across the curriculum. Earlier in the week we sent out a newsletter: April Newsletter 2019

In English this week we have been describing settings. Through drama and discussion, we have explored some different settings in the story and have written some detailed descriptions. We are really impressed by the children’s developing vocabulary knowledge and how they can choose words carefully for effect in their writing. We created our own imaginary settings based on the chocolate room in the story where everything is edible which the children then used as a basis for their writing.

In maths this week, we have been busy doing lots of measuring. The children have learned how to use rulers correctly to measure in centimetres and draw lines accurately.  We have been comparing and ordering objects according to length and have completed some different measuring challenges such as finding out how long the classroom is and how far we can run in 10 seconds!

In PE this week, we enjoyed working on our skipping skills. The children have learned how to do the double bounce and speed bounce. We are also working on some long rope skipping so that we can run, jump out!  Keep practising on your skipping targets!

The new play equipment has been a massive success! Here are some pictures…

Next week we are holding a meeting for parents at 3:30 on Tuesday after school. This is to share and discuss the content of a sequence of lessons that we will be delivering in PSHE lessons. See attached for info: SRE meeting letter

Have a lovely bank holiday weekend! See you all back at school on Tuesday.

Best Wishes, the Year 2 Team.

Arwa loves the adventure playground, and was very excited for this new equipment. She such an outdoor girl and loves parks and climbing tress and monkey bars.

I thought the same re the height, but I agree – the kids are way more capable than we think! It’s a brilliant addition – so pleased that we have this, plus it stops Finnan climbing the trees before school and getting filthy before he even enters the class room 😉

The new adventure play equipment is fantastic! At first, I was quite surprised at the height of it but when I saw all the kids using it I realised how strong and capable they all are! It is an incentive to come to school early !! Thanks to our amazing school

Never had the boys so excited to come to school early so they can go on the adventure playground.
