What an exciting and creative week we have had in Year 2!

Clay Bog Babies

In Art, we designed and made our own bog babies using clay.  The children used clay tools to add detail and decorated their bog babies using natural materials.

Bog Baby Shelters

In D.T., the children designed and made a shelter for their bog baby.  We looked at different types of frames and thought about how we could make the shelter fit for purpose.

Maths

In maths we have been learning about how to measure weight and mass.  The children have been reading scales and solving problems.

English

In English, we have continued using the book ‘Bog Baby’ by Jeanne Willis as  inspiration for our writing. The children have written a non-chronological report about bog babies.

Geography

In Geography, we are learning about direction and maps.  The children had a lot of fun following simple directions to navigate around a course made of cones.  We focused on North, South, East and West.

Skelton Grange

Don’t forget we have our fantastic Skelton Grange trip coming up next week.  2LO are going Wednesday and 2LA are going on Thursday.  We will be outside for most of the day and so we are hoping that the weather is going to be nice!  If it is a hot, sunny day, please can you put sun screen on your child before school and provide them with a sun hat.  If it rains, the children will need a waterproof.

Have a lovely weekend!

Year 2 team.

I had the pleasure of spending an hour with some Y2s today following a map around the Farfield estate. We had to orientate our map correctly and work out the best route to 4 marked positions. The group I was with did well and improved their map reading skills. Well done!
