Year 2 News

Even though we have had a shorter week, we have still managed to fit in lots of learning!
In maths this week, we have been applying our understanding of times tables in a range of situations. We have used calculation triangles to help us to make multiplication and division fact families and to solve missing number calculations.
We have really focused on learning our 3 times table and solving problems using these. We have also learned more about division and have introduced the idea of remainders.
In English lessons this week, we have been finishing, editing and improving our fizzy lifting drink stories. Children are now really good at checking their own work for missing punctuation and spelling errors and correcting these errors independently. As well as checking errors, it is important that children look for ways to improve their sentences.
What can we Add, Bin and Change in these sentences?
Sam was flying too high.
He hit a tree.
He fell on the ground.
Bring in your improved sentences for three extra dojos next week!
We had a great time at our Fairtrade workshop yesterday. We learnt what life is like on a cocoa plantation and how chocolate is made.
The children loved working together in co-operatives to produce cocoa beans and through games they learnt how unfair trade can be when farms are not Fairtrade.
Next week, we are having our own Year 2 chocolate factory. You can all look forward to some delicious treats!
Have a great weekend,
The Year 2 Team.
