This week in Year 2

It’s been a crazy week in Year 2! We have been sooo busy! Monday morning kick started with a drama trip to the moon where the children met a friendly alien whose spaceship had broken down. Together the children solved the problem and returned the alien back home. I have attached some photos at the end of this blog for you to look at 🙂
Later in the week we looked at the book ‘The Way Back Home’ by Oliver Jeffers. The children deepened their understanding of the story’s character through drama and interview questions.
The children continued to use this book to help them write space settings. They had to remember to use exciting adjectives, interesting sentence starters and conjunctions to extend their sentences.
In History, the children have learnt all about Neil Armstrong and the lunar landings. The time machine delivered an extract from Neil Armstrong’s diary and the children then thought about the other ways we could find out about the first man on the moon. Funnily enough, my mum and dad were tidying up their loft this week and came across some old newspaper articles of the lunar landings. They emailed them to school for the children to see!
In Maths this week we have been learning about money. We have been adding amounts together, working out how much we can buy with a certain amount and we also learnt how to give change from a certain amount. Here is a game you can play at home to help support your child.
We were very impressed with the quality of the Learning Log homework. The children have obviously spent a lot of time researching the 1960s. Well done everyone!
Spellings for this coming week are: ‘o’ sounding like ‘u’ e.g. mother, brother etc. and the long ea grapheme e.g. cream, steam
Tricky words this week are: saw, there, their and busy
Many thanks for your continued support with your child’s learning.
The Year 2 Team.
