Fraction Fun and Lemur Loveliness!

Friday 15th March | 3 comments

This week we have been getting to grips with understanding fractions. We have learned some new fractions including 1/3 and 3/4.

Here we are sorting images into those that show 1/2, 1/4 and 1/3.

Here we are finding 1/2, 1/4 3/4 and 1/3 of a tower of cubes.

In English, we read a story about a baby Lemur who had been taken from his home in Madagascar.

The children produced some lovely writing from the point of view of the lemur in the story, comparing his feelings from the beginning of the story to the end.

In topic this week, we discussed what it was like in Kenya. We sorted photographs of Kenya into urban and rural, discussing the human and physical features. We were quite surprised that there were cities in Kenya!

Next week, we are really looking forward to our visit to the Yorkshire Wildlife Park. Please remember that children need to wear their uniform, warm coats and suitable footwear for walking around outside. The children also need a packed lunch in a rucksack as they will need to carry this around with them.

Liam is super excited about this topic. He can’t wait for the trip. We have been talking about herbivores and carnivores.

Finnan wrote us a Tinga Tinga take at home this week – not totally sure if it was from school or his immagination but it was a good effort anyway! Sounds like another really interesting topic this term.
