The children have worked incredibly hard this week. We have started our ‘special booklets’ and the children have all worked their hardest on answering the questions as well as they can.

In maths this week we have been practising adding and subtracting 2 digit numbers and answering one and two step problems. The children are able to draw tens and ones to help them find the answers.

Here are some problems to try at home:

In English this week, we have been reading, performing and writing poems about chocolate. The children have used right choice adjectives and verbs to describe chocolate using their senses. They also used similes and alliteration. Some children even used rhyme! Here are 2Lo performing some poems:

As it was raining on Wednesday, our cricket lesson was indoors. The children worked on their aim and started to learn how to control the bat. It has been great to see the improvements they have made in such a short space of time.  Next week on Friday, we have our second skipping workshop with Jodi from Skipping School. Children that have mastered the basic speed bounce and double bounce will move onto some trickier skipping skills. Maybe you could practise some skipping this weekend to prepare?

Here are 2La with their super aim!

In topic this week, we learned how chocolate is made. Did you know that cacao pods look like rugby balls and that the cacao beans taste like sour apples and are white? The children sequenced the different stages needed to change these beans into the chocolate that we know and love!

Requests for help!

We are looking for some parent volunteers to help in our chocolate factory next week. You must be good at melting chocolate and washing up! 2La need some volunteers on Monday morning and 2Lo on Tuesday morning. Please email staff if you are able to help. Thank you.

We are also looking to improve the garden area outside 2Lo. Earlier in the year we planted bulbs which we enjoyed in the spring. Now we want to get the garden ready for summer. Do you have any seeds, plants or  planters etc that we could use? Thank you.

Have a great weekend,

the Year 2 Team
