On Friday afternoons, the Y2 children will have a change to their usual routines. All the teachers in Key Stage 1 will get their Planning, Preparation and Assessment non-contact time and the children will be doing a range of lessons on a rotation: RE, farming, computer coding, ‘Food and Cooking’ and a series of local visits.
The local visit this half term is down to Rodley looking at the canal, river, bridges and train line. The children will learn about the difference between a river and a canal. They will also look at an old map and see how the area around Calverley Bridge has changed having had a mill, a weir and a train station previously. The first group seemed to enjoy their 90 minute visit this afternoon and were very observant. They particularly enjoyed exploding Himalayan Balsam seed pods.
Mrs Kenny will generally lead the local visits and we are grateful to Mrs Briggs for coming today as a volunteer. The are other volunteering opportunities on a Friday afternoon – please get in touch if you can help.

We had a brilliant day today celebrating Roald Dahl’s birthday.
We played a senses game about things that might lurk in Mr Twit’s beard and then wrote poems about what you might find. The children had to think about adjectives, commas and using possessive apostrophes. Dare you read them?
In the afternoon, the children made Mr Twit’s beard using paper-craft.

On Friday, 2LO met their Reading Buddies from 6T. The children had a lovely time getting to know each other and sharing some of their favourite books. We look forward to our next session.

On Tuesday our classroom was transformed into our own chocolate factory! First the children had to design and make their own ‘secret’ recipes. They designed and made a box for the chocolates to go in. The children also made a ‘menu’ describing their chocolates. Finally the children had to evaluate their product. We were very impressed with how professional the final products looked.

Over the past two Science lessons 2L have been focussing on…chocolate! We set up an investigation to link to our topic about Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. The children were asked to find out which type of chocolate would be best to make a chocolate palace for the Indian Prince, who appears in the story.

Ten Year 2 children had the opportunity to visit the John Charles Centre yesterday afternoon to compete in the Pudsey Schools’ Mini Olympics competition. We had a fabulous afternoon; I was very proud of the children’s sporting attitude and their behaviour throughout the event. Here are a few pictures from the event:
