It has been another super week in Year 2!

In maths, the children have been working so hard with their addition and subtraction skills. We have been adding and subtracting ones to 2 digit numbers e.g. 34 + 3, adding and subtracting tens e.g. 34 + 20 and adding 2 2-digit numbers e.g. 34 + 23.
We have used 100 squares and base 10 equipment to help us with our calculations.

This week’s learning log also supports the maths we have been doing in class. We have also set the children some activities on Mathletics. Please try to find some time to complete these over the next few weeks.

In English we have been reading the story ‘Supertato’ by Sue Hendra. We enjoyed listening to this story and discussing our opinions. We then wrote some amazing book reviews, which included persuasive language e.g. hilarious, brilliantly illustrated and exciting. We have also been learning about using different types of sentences: statements, questions, exclamations and commands. Can you identify which is which?

Skipping fun

The Year 2 children are taking part in a skipping festival this year organised by the company ‘Skipping School’. http://www.skippingschool.co.uk/

This started with a workshop to learn a whole range of different skipping skills. We learned the single bonce, double bounce, hopping, side swing, partner skipping and long rope games.

We had a great time and now need to practise these skills in preparation for a competition event in January. We are selling some plastic skipping ropes in school at a cost of £5. These are good quality and are the correct size for the children to use. If you would like to purchase one, please send the money in an envelope with your child.

Have a great weekend,

The Year 2 team

This weekend Jack came home and found a skipping rope in our house. He told me wanted to show me his skills. It’s all makes sense now. However it’s a pink on so Jack would love a skipping rope from school please. He did some amazing skipping. I was so impressed. Thanks for a fun week and also an amazing harvest festival.
