A busy week in Year 2

We have been keeping very busy this week with various art and craft activities in preparation for Christmas. Next week the children will be bringing home calendars, cards and decorations that they have made.

In geography lessons, we have been finishing our posters about Churchill and finding out about how polar bear habitats are being affected by global warming.

In maths this week, we have started to explore the concept of multiplication. This started with the idea of  equal groups.

There are 2 equal groups with 3 in each group.

Children then went on to record this as repeated addition, 3 + 3 = 6 and then as a multiplication 2 x 3 = 6.

Children will continue to build on this and develop their understanding next week.

Here we are representing 4 equal groups with 3 in each group:

In English lessons this week, we read the story ‘Harvey Slumfenburger’s Christmas Present’. We enjoyed discussing the story and writing book reviews.

Reminders for next week:

  • A few children still do not have their Christmas play costumes in school. All year 2 children are wearing Christmas jumpers or festive colours with dark trousers or leggings. Please can you make sure they have the appropriate clothing on Monday morning at the latest! Thank you.

Performance times in the Junior Hall:

Tuesday 17th December 2pm

Wednesday 18th December 9:30am

  • We are having our Christmas Party on Thursday. Please make your 50p party snack contribution on ParentPay. Children can come to school in their party clothes.

Have a lovely weekend!

Another busy week! I am looking forward to seeing your Christmas performance! 🙂

  2. Nicola Rosalind’s Mum says:

Those are some lovely polar bears. Rosalind has spoken to me about hibernation, migration and adaptation. With the weather this week, I quite fancy a spot of hibernation myself!

  3. Odin's mum says:

Odin has been talking to me a lot this week about climate change and what we can do to stop it, like turning heating down and switching lights off.
