A fantastic first half term in Year 2!

Friday 26th October | No comments yet

It’s been a super first half term and we have been so impressed with how well the children have settled in. Thank you for all your support at Parents’ Evening- it is much appreciated!

We have continued with our work on descriptive writing this week. The children have learned the terms: expanded noun phrase and subordinating conjunctions. They have also learned how to use a comma when separating a list of adjectives.

expanded noun phrase:  a phrase which gives extra information about the noun e.g.  a large hat/ a large, black hat/ a large, black hat with silver stars on.

subordinating conjunction: when, if, that, because are examples of these.

We thought of expanded noun phrases for a witch’s potion:

We have continued our work on addition and subtraction in maths this week. We have used number bonds to help us add three 1 digit numbers and to add to the next multiple of 10. We have also started to look at strategies for adding and subtracting ones and tens to a 2 digit number. We enjoyed using stories to help us understand what the numbers mean.

Can you think of a story and ask a question?

Can you make up your own stories to add or subtract ones or tens?

In topic this week, we learned all about Guy Fawkes and the Gunpowder Plot. Children retold the story and made a wanted poster for Guy Fawkes. We also learned about Firework safety and made our own rules.

Year 2 Learning Log Homework – 26th October 2018

Over the past week, we have been learning how to use our number bonds in different ways.  Once you know your number bonds to 10, it can help you with lots of other addition and subtraction facts – including pairs of numbers which make up different multiples of 10 e.g. 20 + 80 = 100

For learning log, we would like you to show us everything you know about number bonds.

To be handed in Wednesday 7th November 2018.

Have a wonderful half term break!
