Sunshine and Sweetness in Year 2!

Friday 20th April | 4 comments

Welcome back!

The children have been fantastic this week, settling back into routines and showing that they can be the best they can be!

We are really enjoying our new topic based on the book ‘Charlie and the Chocolate factory’. This week we have used the book to look at story settings. We have written descriptions of Charlie’s house, the scene awaiting the opening of the factory and the chocolate room. We have focused on writing expanded noun phrases using right choice adjectives and extending our sentences using a range of conjunctions.

In year 2, children need to be able to use co-ordinating conjunctions confidently: and, but, so  and some subordinating conjunctions: when, if, because, that

You could play this game at home to reinforce understanding of using conjunctions:

In art, we designed our own fantasy setting based on the chocolate room in Wonka’s factory where everything is edible. We have started to write our own descriptions based on these designs. Here are some of our amazing fantasy worlds:

In maths this week, we have been learning how to tell the time. Children have been using mini clocks and playing matching games to tell the time and also drawing the hands on clocks to show different times. We have worked our way from o’clock and half past times, to quarter past and quarter to, and finally to reading the time to the nearest 5 minutes.

Thank you for the work you have done over the holidays. There will be a new learning log coming home next week which gives you some extra time to complete and hand in the Easter holiday homework!

Have a lovely weekend.

The year 2 team.
