It has been a wonderful start to the new school year. I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know the children and everyone has settled in brilliantly. Together we are getting used to the routines of year 2 and everyone is ‘Being the Best that they can be.’
In our Circle Time on Friday when we reflected on how the week had gone, many of the children said that their favourite thing during the week had been Mathletics! The thing that we decided together we needed to work on next week, was ‘not chatting at the tables, so that we could all work even harder and concentrate better.’ Everyone has promised to help us achieve this next week!
Everyone has their Mathletics information stuck into their new Reading Records. Please encourage your child to try and learn their passwords and usernames. Children can use their user names and passwords at home and there is a link to Mathletics from the Maths Links page on our blog. You can also download a free Mathletics app on iPads and Android devices.
To achieve a certificate the children need to earn more than 1000 points in one week. (You can only get one certificate a week) Quite a few of the class did achieve their first certificates and we were really proud to get the class into the Top UK Class Chart and several children reached the Top Student Chart too.
Each week there is a Mathlete of the week from Year 2. A trophy is taken home for the week (to be returned on the Friday morning) and a certificate is awarded. Here is our 1st Mathlete of the week, he achieved the 1st Certificate in year 2 and scored over 9000 points!
Special Mentions this week – well done to everyone in class too, it was extremely difficult to choose just 2 children.
Leah has had a fabulous first week at our school and has been the best she can be in everything we have done. We would all like to welcome her to school and 2F. ‘Be happy.’
Bradley has really concentrated on his work and hasn’t chatted on the carpet or at his table. ‘Be the best you can be.’
Well done to everyone for a wonderful week.
Next week we will be starting our ‘Bees’ topic, so I will be posting some links to help you find out lots of amazing information. The Year 2 Newsletter will be ready early next week, in the meantime, if you have any questions or queries please just ask any member of staff or send me an email.
Have a fabulous weekend, from Mrs Fisher and all the Team 2F team. 🙂

In our SEAL assembly we shared another brilliant book, called ‘Only One You’ by Linda Kranz.
Here is a video of the book; during assembly we kept pausing and thinking about what the words meant.
Back in class, everyone is creating fish so that we can do a new display in the dining hall with a special fish created by every child in the North Building. Each fish will be as special and unique as each child.
We first created fish on clear plastic using Sharpie pens. You can see these fish in our classroom video.
We then enlarged them on the photocopier and added detail with glitter and sequins to make them even more special for the display.
Next week in assembly we will share another beautiful book by Linda Kranz called ‘You be You,’ which is also illustrated with fish.
Here are some pictures of us working on our special fish. Next week we will post images of the new hall display and please do feel welcome to come and see it and read the special messages.

We read Quentin Blake’s latest book, ‘The Five of us,’ and were inspired to draw portraits of the 36 of us! ( The whole 2F team, children and adults)
Together we watched a video about how to draw in the style of Quentin Blake and this really helped us to think about how he uses quite simple lines. We worked in pencil and then inked over the lines. I emailed Tam, the artist who created the video and asked about a video to show how Quentin Blake colours his work…….
We were all so excited to receive her email with his video! Here is a screen shot from a few seconds into the video! Watching Tam’s videos really helped us with our work and we were all really proud of the portraits we did.
We used water colour paints to colour our pictures and learned how to do a water colour wash.
We also wrote speech bubbles about what makes everyone of us special and what we would like to be when we grow up. Do come into class and look at our fantastic work.
