In maths this week we have been learning about unit fractions and non-unit fractions. Can children answer the question below?
Children have also been finding fractions of numbers by using bar models.
Can children create their own bar models at home to find fractions of amounts?

We have also completed some maths assessments this week. We will be discussing these with you at parents’ evening after Easter.
In English this week we have been looking at animal poems. We have been focussing on using right choice adjectives and verbs in our poems.
We used the structure of this poem to create our own poem about other African animals.

More fun in PE:
- Please make sure children have a water bottle with them every day.
- We are now using the adventure play area and will hopefully start using part of the field again soon. has you child got their wellies in school?
- We have asked that the children do not use the adventure play area before or after school; this is to prevent the mixing of bubbles. Thank you.
- We have also asked children not to ride bikes or scooters in the playground before school when it is busy. Thank you.

This week we have been learning all about fractions in maths. The children have learned about equal parts. We have then looked at the fractions one half, one quarter and one third. Here we are sorting some images into those groups:
Please can children learn their double and half facts up to 20 over the weekend? Maybe use the doubles and halves options on hit the button to practise? Extra dojos will be given!
In English this week we returned to our Tinga Tinga tales. Children enjoyed watching the story ‘How Giraffe got his long neck’. They really impressed us with their review of the story and today we have written some great character descriptions. We have been concentrating more on reading this week and the children have completed some reading assessments. They were so focussed and definitely showed us their best! We will discuss how they did at parents evening.
In art this week, we have been busy learning about Tingatinga Art. We have started to create our own Tingatinga paintings.
Tingatinga art was founded by an African artist called Eduardo S. Tingatinga. He was born in Mozambique, but during the 1960s he established an art form that became associated with his new homeland, Tanzania. Today, “Tingatinga” is the Tanzanian term for this form of art, known mostly in Tanzania, Kenya, Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Denmark.
In topic this week, we discussed what it was like in Kenya. We sorted photographs of Kenya into urban and rural, discussing the human and physical features. We were quite surprised that there were cities in Kenya!
Can children explain what urban and rural mean?
We had great fun using bats and balls on Wednesday. We practised balancing the ball, bouncing it and taking it for a walk. We then learned how to strike the ball across the rope to our partners. Here we are in the sunshine!

How lovely to be writing a blog about what the children have been learning in school! It has been a great week; the children have settled back in to the routines of school and have shown an amazing attitude towards their learning. We are so proud of them all.
We started the week by looking at our learning hive and talking about our new school rules. We have been focusing on these all week for our dojos and new sticker rewards.
This week in English we have been finding out about African animals. We have been focusing on the skill of writing linking sentences so that children’s writing becomes more coherent.
In maths, we have continued our learning on 3D shapes. Children should now be confident in naming 3D shapes and talking about their properties using the terms faces, edges and vertices. Here we are sorting shapes:
This week we went on an adventure to Africa! Here we are on the plane and finding fun facts about this amazing continent. We found out how long it would take to get to different places in Africa and used our maps to plot a journey to Kenya. We then identified the countries we would cross on a flight to Kenya. Next week we will start to learn more about Kenya.
Other news and activities
- Children have enjoyed lots of PE this week. Indoor PE this half term is dance and outdoor PE is ball skills. We are also having an extra skipping session on Fridays. Unfortunately, it was raining on Wednesday so we had a relaxing yoga session in the hall instead!
- Children learned all about birds in science this week.
- There is a surprise in children’s bookbags for a special lady on Sunday!

World Book Day Celebrations
Good morning all. Please feel free to join in with today’s activities in your PJs! Today is all about enjoying and celebrating books. Get out your favourite books and enjoy!

At 9:30, please join us for our 1st lesson. We will be reading ‘The Ugly Five’ story by Julia Donaldson. We will then make up our own riddles for African animals. Here is the story and the lesson slides:
At 11am be ready to share your riddles so we can work them out. We will then talk about how to look after books. I would like you to create a poster that we could put up in the library. Please bring completed posters into school next week.
At 1pm, please join the 2LA or 2LO meet space for a book recommendation session. Please be prepared to talk about your favourite book. Tell us what it’s about, who your favourite character is, which is your favourite part and who you would recommend it to.
Character Description Competition
Next week, we will announce the winner of the character description competition and give out some amazing book prizes. Please send in entries via email to class teachers or bring in character descriptions on Monday. We would like you to either draw and label or write a description of your favourite character. You could even invent your own story character and describe them! We are looking forward to seeing your work.

Returning to School
We are so looking forward to everyone returning to school next week. On Monday we will spend some time settling the children back into school through circle time, stories and games. We will also be focusing on school expectations and routines with an emphasis on our new rules: Ready, Respectful, Kind.

Good morning. We hope you are enjoying the first days of spring. Please see below for this week’s timetable and lessons for Wednesday and Thursday.
9.30am English: Today we are going to be writing a description of Madagascar from the lemur’s point of view. The children will be writing in the first person and will be using expanded noun phrases.
11am Maths: Today we will be focussing on 3D shape. We will be looking at the shape of and counting the number of faces on 3D shapes. Here are the slides for the lesson, the WR video link and then please complete the accompanying pages in your booklet.
Today we are still focussing on Farsley and we are going to introduce the children to the terms physical and human geography. You will need the following resources for the lesson:
