Fun in Year 2

16/07/2021 at 1:39 PM

We had a great time at Sports’ Day and the fun has continued this week with a skip-a-thon, more work in our Bee Books and some multiplication revision in maths.

Here we are skipping. The children recorded their scores for how many skips in 30 seconds. We did this for a range of skips and finished with a class skip off! Well done to our class skipping champions!

Next week we look forward to meeting Miss Ellis and Mrs Begum as we go up to Year 3.

Mrs Begum is looking forward to meeting 2LO next week.
Miss Ellis is looking forward to meeting 2LA next week.

Home Learning for the rest of the week

13/07/2021 at 12:10 PM

Good morning. Here are the resources to support some home learning for those children who are still isolating this week. There are two more pages of the bee book to complete this week, Making Honey and Why are Bees Important? If you haven’t already labelled the bee, here is a powerpoint to support:

Making Honey

Task: to write an explanation about how bees make honey.

Watch this video clip and look at the flow chart below to find out how bees make their delicious honey.

Here are the teaching slides and resources to print.

Why are bees important?

Over the next few days, we are going to be learning about why bees are so important. First we are going to do some reading and research. After that, we will write a report about what we have learnt.

Task: to write a report in your bee book about why bees are important, why they are in danger and how we can help the bees.

Listen to this story:

Honey Biscuits

Listen to the story and follow the recipe to make your own delicious biscuits.

Final 2 pages to complete next week- Index and Glossary

If children will be in school for the week beginning 19th July, please bring your Bee Book back to school and we will complete these sections in school.

Blank Page

There is a blank page in your bee book. What would you like to create a page about?

Here are some ideas:

  • Did you know facts
  • Other types of bees
  • Bee Pollination

We will be doing some revision lessons in school on multiplication and division to get ready for Year 3. Please can you complete any relevant sections in your CGP books or spend time working through Mathletics and TTRockstars. Please email teachers if you would like any further support or guidance.

The children will also need access to the following sheet:

11am Maths

In maths, the children will be continuing their work on statistics. They will be collecting data and constructing their own bar charts to represent the data.

1pm R.E.

In RE we will be looking at a PowerPoint which tells one of the parables of Jesus. You will then retell this story on a storyboard on Purple Mash. You will find this in your 2do’s.

Another busy week in Year 2!

02/07/2021 at 1:27 PM

We have enjoyed lots of activities this week including some local geography, measuring in maths, Superworm writing, a visit to the bees and more Chance to Shine Cricket.

We have been learning about compass directions and using these to navigate our school grounds. Here we are using an aerial photograph of the junior grounds and farm from Google Earth. We had to keep rotating the photograph to make sure it was facing the correct direction.

Measuring in Maths

We have been learning all about comparing and measuring mass this week. The children have used the balance scales to compare, using the vocabulary heavier and lighter. They then progressed to using dial scales to weigh different objects in the classroom. It would be great if you could do some more weighing at home! The children always find reading the scales tricky, especially when they are in different intervals or if they need to estimate the weight because the dial is pointing between two points!

We are really enjoying these sessions and children are really developing their skills. This week, we played a simple game.

Visiting Bees

Yesterday we had a fascinating talk from our beekeeper Mrs Gilhooley. The children enjoyed visiting the bees and learning lots of facts. This has kick started our mini topic on bees and we have started to produce our own book. This will keep us busy for the rest of term!
