This week in Y2
Friday 23rd March | 2 comments
We have had yet another busy week in Year 2! Children have been learning about measuring in maths, we have been finding out more about life in Kenya and have enjoyed reading the story ‘A Lemur’s Tale’ in English. In science this week with Mrs Wilson, we learned all about nocturnal animals. The children really seemed to enjoy this and have been keen to find out more. In RE we started to think about prayer and we are looking forward to learning more about this at the Mosque next week.
Here we are sorting pictures of Kenya into urban and rural, discussing the human and physical features.
In maths this week we have been estimating and measuring length in centimetres. We discussed the importance of starting at zero, positioning your ruler correctly, reading the numbers and recording them accurately.
In English, we read a story about a baby Lemur who had been taken from his home in Madagascar.
The children produced some lovely writing from the point of view of the lemur in the story, comparing his feelings from the beginning of the story to the end. We also wrote some descriptions of Madagascar.
This morning, some of the children created amazing African sunset artwork. They used chalks to make a sunset background then cut out animal shapes on black paper to create a silhouette.
Next week we are looking forward to our Mosque visits on Monday (2Lo) and Tuesday (2La) followed by a morning of African activities on Wednesday.
Have a lovely weekend,
the Year 2 Team
