What an incredibly busy week we have had!

Tuesday was Remembrance Day. All of the children in the North Building gathered together for a very special assembly led by Miss Curteis and together we held a minutes silence. Some of the parents from 2F also joined us for the assembly and then walked to the Farsley War Memorial with us. Every class had created a special poppy wreath together and the children from both year 2 classes carried these down and laid them at the memorial.

The children were all interested to see the memorial and read the names of the citizens of Farsley who gave their lives for our country during World War I and II. We formed a circle around the memorial and took time to quietly reflect and also to think of the soldiers who are still risking their lives in war today.

In Literacy, the children have enjoyed working with Mrs Loveridge and Mr Walker and they have written some brilliant poetry. With the Creative Writing Students from Becketts University the children have started to gather ideas for stories they will be writing.

In Numeracy the children have had a wonderful week learning their 2x, 5x and 10x tables and some of the children have been having a go at other tables, using arrays to help them. In the hall we had a brilliant active Maths session. The children rotated round 4 different activities. They used shoes and boots to create the 2x table, they used the cones to make arrays to show the 5x table, they practised counting in 5s and 10s along the paper metre rules we would be using for the Silver trail and finally they bounced on the trampolines, while counting in 2s,5s and 10s! Enjoy the action here!

We have also learned how to use a multiplication grid to help us practise our tables. (Last weeks blog posts had links to games to practise tables and using grids.)

This week’s Special Mention children were Ben, for his acrostic poem about peace and for his determination to keep going even when he found it tricky and Ryan, for his work on his times tables.

Our Mathlete of the week was Phoebe, with an amazing score of over 11,000 points.

Our class Baking Champion was Macey, who achieved a ‘Highly Commended’ certificate in the ‘Great Bake Off.’

Well done to all these children, and the whole class for their hard work this week. New Team Leaders and coaches have been chosen and a few children have swapped teams. Together the class has written a new class promise and we will all be doing our best to ‘Be great learners.’

Next week there is a training day for the teachers on Friday, but no school for the children.

Thank you again to the parents who accompanied us on our trip to the War Memorial and a huge thank you to everyone for helping to make Children in Need such a brilliant success.

On Sunday we are working together to create a new school banner; if you would like to help, we will be in the North Building from 11.00 am to 3.00pm. Everyone is welcome to come and pick up a needle and join in with this creative project.

Hello Mrs Fisher and Class 2!
It looks like you have all had a super busy week – and a very enjoyable one, too. We had a special assembly, a two minute silence and read a rather sad story about a young boy who runs away to fight in the war. We’re going to look at our local war memorial when we hold our market stall in a nearby town in a couple of weeks time. We also celebrated Children in Need with spots and stripes! There’s a little video of our talent show on our School Website: http://www.middleham.n-yorks.sch.uk/News/tabid/87/ID/66/Children-in-Need-2014.aspx
We’re all looking forward to playing Mathletics with you this morning!

What a great week you have all had. I was sorry to miss the trip to the memorial but all the wreaths looked amazing. Evie was very interested to hear all about her great-grandpa who fought in and survived the war. Sadly, he is no longer with us, but I know that he would be very proud to see the respect and understanding that you have all shown.

What an amazing week it has been, well done 2F. What a fabulous amount of money raised for children in need. All the pictures and comments on the silver trail are fantastic and the buns were delicious!
