Being Bossy in Year 2!
Friday 1st October | No comments yet
It has been lovely to welcome back the children in 2LA this week. Thank you for all your hard work at home.
Earlier in the week we wrote out stories based on the Little Red Hen. Children worked hard on this both at school and at home. We are working on becoming more independent writers in Year 2 and it was great to see how children had a go at writing their own stories.
Yesterday we started our new writing topic on instruction writing. Our first task was to write some instructions for making a healthy sandwich. We learned all about imperative (bossy) verbs and showed that we could choose a precise ‘right choice’ verb when giving instructions both verbal and in writing. Ask your child what happened when they said, ‘Put the butter on the bread’.
Next week we will be writing some more instructions based on our Be Healthy topic.
In maths this week we have been counting in 2s, 5s and 10s and demonstrating our understanding by completing sequences and patterns. We started to learn how to count in 3s. Can you practise this at home?
We have now finished our place value unit and will build on this with our next topic, Addition and Subtraction.
This week we have been learning more about Florence Nightingale. We have found out about her time in Scutari hospital and how her work there changed peoples lives at the time and how her work continued to change lives.
Next week we are looking forward to our workshop in school. We had asked that the contributions for the workshop were paid by today. Please make your contributions via Parent Pay if you have not done this yet. Thank you.
