    We have heard lots of interesting facts about nocturnal animals from Isla. It looks like the children have worked very hard to research all these facts. Well done 2f

    Hedgehogs hibernate from October and November to March and April.

    Did you know their diet is slugs,worms,caterpillar and lots more disgusting things?

    Actually, hedgehogs are absent from North and South America,Australia and south east Asia.

    If a fox comes the hedgehog rolls into a ball.
    A hedgehog sniffs worms, then digs them up to eat. He also eat slugs.
    Baby hedgehogs are called hoglets, they have smooth white prickles on their backs that are not sharp.

    Hedgehogs are carnivores, they eat beetles, slugs and earthworms .When finding food they use their senses of smell and hearing because they have poor eyesight. They are nocturnal animals coming out at night to hunt and sleep in the day time in a nest under a tree or in the bushes .

    In the 1950’s it was estimated there were 36.5 million hedgehogs in Britan and they eat earthworms, bugs and lots of different insects. 🙂 🙂 🙂

    Did you know that hedgehogs eat slugs,and earthworms. When predators, like foxes are around they crawl up in to a ball and then the foxes go away?

    If a snake comes to try to eat a hedgehog, the snake would die because of the hedgehogs prickly spikes.

    Sadly, the dad of the hedgehogs family dosen’t look after the hedgehogs like the mum does.

    Did you know that hedgehogs rely on their prickles and roll into a ball when scared?:-) The head and body of adult hedgehogs range from 5 to 12 inches long and the tail can add 1 to 2 inches.

    A baby hedgehog is called a hoglet.
    There are lots of different species of hedgehogs like a Desert hedgehog, they have giant ears!
    Did you know that hedgehogs have about 5000 spines !!!
    One of the most famous hedgehogs is of course Mrs- Tiggy- Winkle from Beatrix Potter.
    The hedgehogs prey is a worm. Moles also eat worms.
    Amazingly, they were around in Medival times. Their predator is a dog, if you were an adult hedgehog you would be protected by your spine.
